Life Goes On

“In three words, I can sum up everything I have learned about life: it goes on.” – Robert Frost

As time passes, life experiences find their place in our memories. With each passing day, we move on, not only from people but from things too. Things that we adorned during childhood find their place in the attic in the house. However, while meddling through the boxes filled with memories from our lived experiences, our old memories get re-ignited. While travelling back down the memory lane overwhelms us for a specific moment, as we come back to the present day, the moment boxes are closed again. I still remember how I loved my barbie doll. I cared for her as one would care for a sister. However, it was a phase that passed. She found her place in the showcase as the epitome of little moments of joy.

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” – Albert Einstein

The essence of life has been conveyed beautifully in just three words-life goes on. Whatever happens in our lives-tragedy, heartbreak, loss of someone close to us-life goes on. This extraordinary aspect of life to help us heal makes it so beautiful and worth living. Isn’t it?

During the grieving period, life plays its role by giving you sufficient time to get over the psychological pain to help restore the previous state of mental well-being.

Life goes on is used to encourage someone after bad experiences. However, such words can pierce your heart and soul deeply when you have lost someone very close to your heart-at that moment-you want to believe that how can life go on? How can I smile without you? How can I enjoy in your absence? You create a cocoon to feel the presence of the lost one as deeply as you can.

“Life begins on the other side of despair.”- Jean Paul Sartre

At such moments, attending to calls, messaging or socializing in any manner feels like a burden. Such acts do not mean to convey that I hardly care- it’s like an unsaid message to seek time out-‘I want to be alone for some time -you may wait for a response from my side.’ We want to be with the memories to feel the presence-it gives comfort at the time when we are scared to let go.

But for how long can we lead such a life? One week, one month, maybe a year-then what? You have to let fresh air in by opening the closed windows to your heart. Those who are gone would always stay in our memories as the best feeling-the bittersweet reality is life goes on.

Time acts as a healer, healing every wound slowly but surely. Even an emotional wound that seems unmanageable heals. Nevertheless, scrapping and scratching the scar will not allow proper first-aid. In such a situation, you might be interfering in the healing process. For many a time, psychological first-aid is what you need to recover. As time helps you to heal-let it does its work-you do yours by letting go of the hold-let they find a special place in your collection of memories-from childhood to present moments.

Let people stay deep in your heart as the best feeling-to bring a smile to your face when you click on one such memory to say you are the best feeling even if life goes on.
